I need Help...

I've been looking at this table top for quite awhile. I can't seem to decide what to do with it. I know it needs something, but what? So, I'm asking the experts-those of you who post to Marty's Tabletop Tuesday. Let me know what you think, and I will re-post next week with your suggestions.

  1. Oh, I love the books, finial and the beehive cloche. Maybe add some kind of plant or something taller in the middle or to the side where the beehive is and move the beehive over closer to the center. A little figurine or candle would also look wonderful. I also really like plates standing on a plate stand. You've got a wonderful start, maybe just something that is a little lighter in color and a little taller added will be just what you're looking for. I love your tablescape in the previous post. The table is beautifully set and the aprons are such a fun idea. So happy to find your blog and thanks so much for joining the party. Hugs, Marty

  2. I agree with Marty that a touch of greenery would be a lovely addition. You might also ground the vignette with something light-colored underneath, so the dark objects stand out. Love that beehive cloche!

  3. I'd add flowers! I always think they add such a nice touch to a vignette! Can't wait to see what you come up with next week, I am sure it'll look awesome!

  4. You've got wonderful components, and you are on the right track with stacking the books for the finial to rest on. I'd maybe go even higher --one more book! and then perhaps a "low" plant, like a flowering African violet -- it lasts so much longer than cut flowers, and place it in the "V" between the two halves of your current vignette. Push the beehive cloche back a bit to make room if you need to. But with varied height, and a bit of fresh greenery (a small ivy or asparagus fern is another good choice) it will be stunning!

Remember the rule of three -- odd numbers of things look best. If you have the beehive cloche, the stack of books, and the plant, you have three strong but varied components. And you will have a lovely tabletop! See you next week!!!

  5. Thanks for your sweet visit. I love everything on your tabletop -- perhaps just the addition of a little color would help -- can't wait to see what you do.

  6. I was going to say what Marty and some of the others said - a plate on a stand, some greenery or flowers. How about a tall skinny lamp? Can you put something inside the beehive cloche? I always try to have different textures (metal, wood, glass, etc.) and different shapes (round, tall, narrow, square, etc.) as well as the odd numbers, 3, 5, 7 etc.

Good luck! Can't wait to see it next week!

  7. Hi! And welcome to blogland. Thanks for stopping by my blog for a visit.

I looked your table over carefully before reading the others responses, and it looks like we are all in agreement. Some softness and color with a little greenery tucked in or some small flowers. You could also add a different dimension with some fabric. Possibly some height too. Just play around and we'll all be anxious to see what changes you make!

    Have fun!
